Dallas Morning News reported that Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind, under new ownership, plans to re-hire workers that have been laid off in the past 18 months and increase production over the next three years.
According to the organization’s website, Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind currently services 11 counties of North Texas, encompassing over 7600 square miles serving 150,000 blind and visually impaired. The organization is the the largest employer of people who are blind and visually impaired in North Texas; manufacturing and assembling over 300 items right here in Dallas.
Last month, the organization merged with Envision, a Wichita, Kansas-based nonprofit with a similar mission but on a much larger scale.
Envision CEO, and now Dallas Lighthouse CEO, Michael Monteferrante, told the Dallas Morning News, “The first priority is to bring back workers who’ve been laid off in the past 18 months. Our second priority is to get the revenue level up with sustainable products that will be around for a long time.”
