  • Lyft Helps Nonprofits Recruit Workers

    Fast Company reports that the ride-sharing company, Lyft, is helping low-income workers get to job interviews and find employment.

    Lyft’s Jobs Access Program works with nonprofits like Goodwill, Dream Corps, the National Down Syndrome Society and United Way to assist individuals in underserved communities. Lyft provides free ride credits to the nonprofits to use with their clients.

  • United Way of Tarrant County Announces 2019 KERNEL Finalists

    United Way of Tarrant County, located in Fort Worth, has shared the  three KERNEL finalists for its social innovation competition event, KERNEL Live! The finalists, competing for $50,000 in seed money to grow their ideas, are Feel the Color, Shared Housing Program and Tarrant County Furniture Bank – Furniture Changing Lives.

    KERNEL, established in 2016 by United Way of Tarrant County, fosters social innovation within Tarrant County and provides resources and seed funding for organizations and programs that utilize a combination of social impact, a sustainable revenue model and an innovative approach to solving the social challenges in our community.

  • Dynamic Development Strategies Advances to Top 3 of Fort Worth Business Plan Competition

    The City of Fort Worth reports that Dynamic Development Strategies is among the top 3 businesses in the 9th Annual Fort Worth Business Plan Competition. The finalists will compete in a final pitch on October 24.

    Dynamic Development Strategies helps local small and mid-size nonprofits with their fundraising needs. Their work includes fundraising coaching, creating strategic development plans and providing grant services.

    Michelle Crim, president of  Dynamic Development Strategies said, “I’m so honored to be part of the Fort Worth Business Plan Competition and now advancing to the top 3. This is a wonderful opportunity for small businesses and nonprofits to receive expert guidance on running their organizations.”

    Tickets to the finale are free and open to the public.

  • Fourth Annual Emmitt Smith Charity Bike Ride Raises Funds for Children

    The Fourth Annual Emmitt Smith Gran Fondo event was hold on September 14, and over 1600 cyclists took part in charity cycling ride, sponsored by Toyota, leaving from the iconic Southfork Ranch in Parker, TX. 

    Pat and Emmitt Smith also presented former U.S.A. National Champion Eric Marcotte, a check for $10,000 for completing the 94-mile timed course in the fastest time of 3:57:21.44.

    Funds raised benefit Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities in their efforts to create educational experiences and enrichment opportunities for children in North Texas.

    Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance has shared the upcoming Case Manager of the Year Award finalists. The award recognizes case managers who have worked hard to make homelessness rare, brief and nonrecurring.

  • Morris Foundation Emphasizes New Strategic Collaborations

    The Morris Foundation, located in Fort Worth, has shared their focus on a new top-down strategy in which subject-matter experts in the areas of education, healthcare and social services engage the community and provide leadership in solving the crucial challenges facing those most in need, according to Todd M. Morris Liles, the Foundation’s Executive Director.

    “Our new business model allows us to better achieve the vision of our Founders, Jack B. and Linda C. Morris. Most importantly, it strengthens our effectiveness in fulfilling their mission, which we now steward,” Liles said. “We are enhancing our value proposition to the community, increasing returns—in terms of lives helped—for the social investments we make.”

    About 300 representatives of more than 90 local organizations supported each year by The Morris Foundation gathered Thursday, August 22, 2019, to learn about the Foundation’s innovative strategic plan—a blueprint with a new high-engagement model that strives for maximal impact and outcomes in key areas. Collectively, their leadership, coupled with community partners, which includes the City of Fort Worth and Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, are embracing the Foundation’s “business of philanthropy.”

    Education initiatives include:

    • Increasing the Number of Third Graders Reading on Grade Level
    • Developing Nurturing Learning Environments
    • Cultivating Transformational Leaders

    Healthcare initiatives include:

    • Increasing Utilization of Mental Health Services

  • Texas Women’s Foundation Seeks Nominations for Maura Award and Young Leader Award

    Texas Women’s Foundation, located in Dallas, has announced they are seeking nominations for the 2020 Maura Award and Young Leader Award, which recognize those who have positively impacted the lives of women and girls. The deadline for submissions is October 25.

    Award recipients will be honored at the Leadership Forum & Awards Dinner, sponsored by AT&T, on April 30, 2020, at the Omni Dallas Hotel. Co-chairs for the dinner are community leaders Laura Maxwell of Frito-Lay, and Nina Vaca, a former Maura Award recipient, of Pinnacle Group.  

  • Men of Nehemiah Celebrates Ten-Year Anniversary

    The Men of Nehemiah, located in Dallas, has announced they are celebrating a decade of providing support services for homeless and formerly-incarcerated men of south Dallas with addictive disorders.

    The nonprofit is holding its sixth annual concert fundraiser, hosted by honorary co-chairs Becky McCamey and Michal Powell, along with event chair Steven Wilkerson on October 17.

  • Ability Connection Hosts Homecoming Week for Individuals with Disabilities

    Ability Connection, located in Dallas, hosted Homecoming Week which featured activities and events to celebrate individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.

    The finale event was the Black & White Ball which featured diner, dancing and festive music.

  • The Warren Center Celebrates Successful Fantasy Football Event

    The Warren Center, located in Richardson, recently hosted their 26th annual Fantasy Football Draft Night event to raise funds support children with developmental delays and disabilities.

    This year’s event was hosted by Darren Woodson, a three-time Super Bowl champion and five-time Pro Bowl selection, he played his entire career for the Dallas Cowboys from 1992-2003. At the football-themed event, guests drafted their own Fantasy Football team to compete in a league of friends and colleagues throughout the NFL season. At the end of the season, the champion of Fantasy Football will win two season tickets for the Dallas Cowboys 2020-2021 season. Winners of each league will receive a football autographed by a celebrity NFL player.
