New study articulates the economic benefits of Texas nonprofits
According to a study recently released by the Perryman Group, Texas nonprofit entities directly employ more than 540,000 persons as of 2018 and generate economic benefits of $216.6 billion in expenditures, $110.0 billion in annual gross product, $74.7 billion in annual personal income and nearly $1.4 million jobs when multiplier effects are considered.

Fort Worth Police Officer Association Focuses on Mental Health
The Star-Telegram reports that the Fort Worth Police Officer Association (FWPOA) is focusing on the mental health of their officers who might be reluctant to get assistance after traumatic experiences. Officers experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are struggling to cope with job-related pressures, leading to suicide.
FWPOA works with other organizations like 22 Kill and Stay the Course to offer mental health counseling for veterans. The name of the organization 22 Kill references the 22 veterans who take their own lives every day.

Boy Scouts of America Files for Bankruptcy
WFAA reports that the Boy Scouts of America, located in Irving, has filed for bankruptcy protection after facing numerous sex abuse lawsuits.
More than 800 former Boy Scouts have filed suit so far against the organization, alleging their scout leaders sexually abused them from the mid-1960s to the late-1980s.

Fort Worth Sports Advisory Council in Audit Dispute with City
NBC5 reports that Fort Worth Sports Advisory Council owes the City of Fort Worth $114,308 due to a recent audit.
The nonprofit organization operated concessions stands in Gateway Park and vending machines in city community centers. The Fort Worth Sports Advisory Council had a contract with the city for over 15 years but the nonprofit cancelled the contract in 2019.
Their agreement stipulated that the nonprofit was to pay the city 20 percent of its net revenue or $2,000 per year, whichever was greater.

The DFW Philanthropy Conference, hosted by the AFP Fort Worth Metro and AFP Greater Dallas chapters, has announced the 2020 speaker lineup. The 2020 conference will be held on June 5 at the Irving Convention Center.

Multicultural Alliance Honoring Deborah Ferguson and Bill Thornton
The Fort Worth Business Press reports that the Multicultural Alliance, located in Fort Worth, will honor NBC 5 Today co-anchor Deborah Ferguson and retiring Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce CEO Bill Thornton at their annual Awards Dinner.
Ms. Ferguson is receiving the annual Multicultural Alliance Award while Mr. Thornton is receiving the organization’s lifetime achievement award.
The 69th Multicultural Alliance Annual Awards Dinner will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.
