  • American Cancer Society to Open Hope Lodge in Dallas

    The Dallas News reports the American Cancer Society will open the first Hope Lodge in Dallas. Gene and Jerry Jones provided a $7.5 million gift and Baylor Scott & White Health donated the property.

    The 40,000 square-foot facility is scheduled to open in 2021 and will house adult cancer patients and their caregivers when they travel to Dallas for treatments at any of the major medical centers.

    The Dallas Hope Lodge will include 50 private guest suites, common living areas, a dining room, pantry, laundry facilities, library, meditation room and outdoor healing garden.

  • Cook Children’s Opening New Campus in Prosper

    The Fort Worth Business Press reports Fort Worth-based Cook Children’s Health Care System is building a new children’s hospital on 23 acres in Prosper, located in eastern Denton County.

    The new campus will serve as an inpatient pediatric hospital which will consist of a neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care unit, emergency department, operating rooms and medical and surgical units.

    The hospital is expected to open in 2022.

  • Parkland Foundation Reaches Goal for Comprehensive Breast Center

    The Parkland Foundation announced donors throughout Dallas community have contributed over $40 million to support the new Moody Center for Breast Health.  The Moody Foundation provided the lead gift to create the new comprehensive breast center at Parkland Hospital, located in Dallas.

    Previously, Parkland breast health patients had to access services across ten separate locations. The new center will bring breast health services together at one location which will allow for more convenient treatments and follow up services.

    The new center will open to patients in 2021.

  • Aging Mind Foundation Gala Raises Funds for Alzheimer’s Research

    The Fifth Annual Aging Mind Foundation Gala was recently held at The Joule Dallas and raised over $720,000 to find the cause of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

    Yvonne and Mayo Crum were honored as the 2019 Gala Honorees. Sherwood Wagner served as the Honorary Chair and Kathy Nelson as Gala Chair. Greg Creed, Yum! Brands CEO acted as Master of Ceremonies and hosted the dinner.   

    “Over six million Americans are currently battling Alzheimer’s disease and by 2050, that number is expected to increase to 14 million Americans,” said Laree Hulshoff, co-founder of Aging Mind Foundation. “The Gala is our largest fundraiser of the year and since 2013, Aging Mind Foundation has raised more than $2 million to fund high-quality brain research. This year, the event benefits Yale University’s Cellular Neuroscience, Neurodegeneration and Repair program.”

    Alzheimer’s is the fifth leading cause of death for those 65 and older and one of the most expensive diseases in the nation. There is currently no way to prevent, cure or even slow its progression. Located in Dallas, the Aging Mind Foundation is dedicated to supporting research designed to find the cause of the dementias.

  • Cook Children’s Will Address Vaccinations Through Social Media Coalition

    WFAA reports that Cook Children’s Health Care System in Fort Worth is launching a social media coalition to address vaccinations. Along with instructing parents during office visits, medical professionals are also addressing questions about vaccinations on social media and responding to parents’ questions.

  • JEH Foundation Awards Grant to JPS Hospital

    The Jordan Elizabeth Harris (JEH) Foundation has shared they have presented JPS Behavioral Health with research funding. The $52,000 gift will fund a patient-focused predictive analytics project that can determine suicide risk factors in a patient’s electronic health record.

  • UT Dallas’ Callier Center Honors Hospital Foundation Leader

    UT Dallas has announced Brent Christopher, president of Children’s Medical Center Foundation, will receive the Ruth and Ken Altshuler Callier Award at the eighth annual Callier Cares Luncheon.

    Mr. Christopher has served as president of Children’s Medical Center Foundation since 2016 and previously served as president and CEO of Communities Foundation of Texas.

    The Ruth and Ken Altshuler Callier Care Award, created in 2012, is named for Dallas community leaders Ruth and Dr. Ken Altshuler who have made a difference in the lives of patients with communication disorders and their families. The Altshulers created the Callier Care Fund, which provides assistance to children and adults with hearing, speech and language disorders regardless of their income, insurance or socioeconomic background.

  • New Treatment Center in Denton to Serve Veterans

    NBC 5 reports a new Denton center will start serving veterans with post-traumatic stress and other mental health issues. The Denton County Veterans Coalition has secured nearby space for a new facility where veterans can receive services from psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists.

    The new treatment center will open in April.

  • Mothers’ Milk Bank Announces Grand Opening of New Facility

    Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas shared the grand opening of their new building will be on May 7 in Fort Worth. Their new building is located at 7617 Benbrook Parkway.

  • Project Access Tarrant County Recognizes Their Healthcare Heroes

    Project Access Tarrant County shared the news that two of their volunteers were honored at the Fort Worth Business Press Annual Healthcare Heroes awards.  Dr. David Capper and Shirley Roberts were both recognized at the ceremony.
