Woman Who Defrauded Fort Worth Charity Receives Prison Term

The Star-Telegram reports that a former employee of the Jewish Federation of Fort Worth and Tarrant County was recently sentenced to three years in prison for stealing over $990,000.

Laurie Ann Reese was controller for the Fort Worth-based nonprofit and was accused of passing checks payable to herself. She used forged signatures from an executive with the Jewish Federation and then passed the checks at several banks in North Texas. She plead guilty last fall and will serve 36 months in a federal prison. Additionally, she was ordered to pay more than $992,000 in restitution and will serve five years’ probation.
