Salvation Army DFW features Jenna Bush Hager as keynote speaker at annual luncheon

The Salvation Army DFW brought former first-daughter Jenna Bush Hager to Fort Worth for its annual Doing the Most Good Luncheon on Mar. 23. The organization shared via its Facebook page that The TODAY Show correspondent shared the experiences she and her parents had with The Salvation Army over the years, including participating in Angel Tree adoptions at Christmas. She also shared about her compassionate work in UNICEF and as a school teacher.

Hager is a contributing correspondent on NBC’s Today show and an editor-at-large for Southern Living magazine. She is also the author of The New York Times best seller, Ana’s Story: A Journey of Hope, which she wrote after traveling to Latin America in 2006 as an intern with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF. Ana’s Story is based on the life of a 17-year-old single mother with HIV, who struggled to shield her child from the life she had of abuse and neglect. Hager remains involved with UNICEF and is currently chair of the agency’s Next Generation initiative, which is dedicated to reducing childhood deaths around the world.

Hager is also co-author of the children’s books Read All About It! and Our Great Big Backyard. In October 2017 she co-authored the non-fiction book: Sisters First: Stories from Our Wild and Wonderful Life with her twin sister, Barbara Pierce Bush. Hager holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas at Austin.

Proceeds from the annual luncheon help The Salvation Army provide vital programs and services in Fort Worth. In the greater Fort Worth area, The Salvation Army operates a homeless shelter and social services center, two apartment buildings for the elderly, a substance-abuse rehabilitation center, two thrift stores, and a community center in the Northside area of the city.
