North Texas Workers Struggle to Afford Housing

KERA News reports the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s 2019 report shows workers in Dallas would need to earn $23.10 an hour to afford the fair market rent on a two-bedroom, which would run $1,201.

In Fort Worth and Arlington, a worker would need to earn $20.54 per hour to afford a two-bedroom rental rate of $1,068.

The report shows workers in Texas making minimum wage of $7.25 per hour would need to work 91 hours or more each week to afford a one-bedroom apartment.
