Here are two recent federal grant opportunities:

Environmental Education Grant Program

  • Funder: Environmental Protection Agency
  • Expected number of awards: 16
  • Cost sharing required? Yes
  • Closing date: March 3, 2026
  • Award range: $200,000 to $250,000
  • Eligible applicants: local education agencies, nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education, tribal organizations, educational broadcasting agencies.
  • Summary: The Environmental Education Grant Program supports locally and regionally focused environmental education projects that promote environmental stewardship and help develop knowledgeable and responsible students, teachers, and community members. This grant program provides financial support for projects that design, demonstrate, and/or disseminate environmental education practices, methods, or techniques that increase public awareness and knowledge about local environmental issues and provides participants in its programs the skills necessary to make informed decisions and to take responsible actions toward the environment.

National Leadership Grants for Libraries

  • Funder: Institute of Museum and Library Services
  • Expected number of awards: 45
  • Cost sharing required? Yes
  • Due date: March 13, 2026
  • Award range: up to $1 million
  • Eligible applicants: public libraries, school libraries, tribal libraries, libraries at institutes of higher education, research libraries, archives, private or special libraries, or nonprofit associated with libraries or archives.
  • Summary: The National Leadership Grants for Libraries Program (NLG-L) supports projects that develop, enhance, or adapt replicable practices, programs, models, or tools to strengthen library and archival services for the American public. The program supports projects that serve the learning needs of the public through libraries and archives; improve community prosperity through libraries and archives; provide broad access to and preservation of information and collections through libraries and archives; or provide services to affected communities in the event of an emergency or disaster.
