New nonprofit takes 40 first-gen students on college tour

TD Foundation, a local nonprofit organization founded by Officer Takesha Dye, a police officer in Grand Prairie, is proud to announce an exciting initiative aimed at empowering first-generation students. As part of their ongoing commitment to educational equity and opportunity, TD Foundation hosted a transformative S.O.A.R. – Students Overcoming and Achieving Results to Memphis, TN college trip.

The college trip in February provided a select group (40) of first-generation students from Grand Prairie High School with a unique opportunity to explore The University of Memphis, engage with university faculty and students, and gain valuable insights into the college application and admissions process.

Founder Takesha Dye shared, “As a police officer deeply invested in the well-being of our community, I founded TD Foundation with a mission to empower and uplift underserved youth. Our upcoming college trip to Memphis represents a significant milestone in our efforts to provide first-generation students with access to higher education opportunities that they may not have otherwise.” Students will also be visiting the National Civil Rights Museum to explorer further history outside of their textbooks.

TD Foundation team is dedicated to ensuring that this college trip is not only informative but also impactful and memorable for all participants. Through mentorship, guidance, and personalized support, we aim to equip these students with the knowledge, confidence, and resources they need to pursue their educational dreams.

“We believe that every young person deserves the chance to pursue higher education and achieve their full potential,” “By investing in the futures of first-generation students, we are investing in the future prosperity of our community” said Takesha. TD Foundation extends its gratitude to the generous sponsors and community partners who have made this college trip possible.
