  • UNT Receives Record $30 M Gift

    The University of North Texas (UNT) has reported alumnus and UNT Board of Regents Chairman G. Brint Ryan has donated $30 million to create the G. Brint Ryan College of Business. The gift from Ryan LLC founder and CEO G. Brint Ryan and his wife, Amanda, is the largest in the Denton university’s history.

    The $30 million gift awarded by Ryan and his wife Amanda will create at least six endowed chairs and provide funding for academic program initiatives over seven years. Among the areas of focus are taxation and tax research, entrepreneurship, finance, logistics, information technology, cybersecurity and behavioral accounting.

  • TEA Announces NEW Math Innovation Zones

    The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has shared on their website the education organizations chosen to join the new Math Innovation Zones cohort. Inspired Vision Academy in Dallas will join 14 other districts that were chosen for the 2018-2019 school year. The zones are expected to implement high-quality learning programs in math for kindergarten through eighth grade students.

    Math Innovation Zones are already established at Dallas ISD, Fort Worth’s Uplift Education and the Grand Prairie ISD.

  • UT Dallas Acquires Crow Family Art Collection

    The Dallas News has reported the University of Texas at Dallas has acquired the entire museum collection of the Trammell and Margaret Crow family to establish the Trammell and Margaret Crow Museum of Asian Art of the University of Texas at Dallas.

    The art collection has been featured in Dallas since the 1960’s but with the addition of the new donation, the collection will be displayed at the school’s Richardson campus.

  • Communities Foundation of Texas and the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Announce New Program

    Plano Magazine reports the Communities Foundation of Texas and the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas have partnered to create a new leadership development program to address the evolving needs of rapidly growing Collin County. 

    The Collin County Nonprofit Leadership Institute will target agencies that primarily serve low-to-moderate income families and individuals and help the agencies develop strategic approaches to addressing community needs.

    Twelve Collin County nonprofits that address homelessness, hunger and affordable housing will attend monthly sessions held throughout Collin County.  The training will focus on agency and program leadership, with additional learning opportunities for program staff and board members. 

    The Collin County Nonprofit Leadership Institute will host the first cohort’s session from January to June 2019.

  • Dallas ISD Dyslexia Services Director Receives Excellence in Education Award

    The Hub shared that the Dallas International Dyslexia Association (IDA) has chosen Michelle Brown, director of Dallas ISD Dyslexia Services, to receive the 2019 Excellence in Education Award. She will be recognized on Feb. 8 at the Dallas IDA’s 2019 Regional Conference.

    The Excellence in Education Award is presented annually at Dallas IDA’s regional conference to teachers or other professionals who demonstrate excellence in practice and a commitment to students with dyslexia and related differences. Individuals may be nominated by a colleague, student, parent, or other professional in the field.

  • Communities in Schools of Greater Tarrant County Announces New Pilot Program

    Communities in Schools (CIS) announced their new pilot program for Mental Health and Support and Counseling Services during the 2018-2019 school year. The goals of the Mental Health and Support and Counseling Services are to provide support and treatment of student and family concerns, establish beneficial social-emotional skills, promote positive communication and thought patterns, and assist in improving the student’s academic and behavioral success.

    CIS provides intensive, ongoing case management directly inside schools for students identified as most-at-risk due to a variety of barriers they and their families face. CIS Social Workers provide individualized case management plans and are housed on a full-time basis within each of their partnering schools during the academic year.

  • Southern Dallas Progress Community Development Corporation Promotes Financial Literacy Symposium

    Southern Dallas Progress Community Development Corporation announced Exodus Financial Group as a presenter for their Financial Literacy Symposium in a recent Facebook post.

    The mission of Southern Dallas Progress Community Development Corporation is to empower, enable and support community members in their efforts to revitalize Southern Dallas communities and neighborhoods. Southern Dallas Progress Community Development Corporation serves as a vehicle through which residents and businesses can work together to solve problems and improve life in their community.


  • Education Opens Doors, Inc. Announces New Staff Member

    Education Opens Doors, Inc. recently announced on their Facebook page that Joe Babeu has joined the staff as Executive Assistant to support operations across the organization.

  • The Welman Project Founders Vanessa Barker and Taylor Willis Celebrate Successful Start

    The founders of a new nonprofit, The Welman Project, had a big year according to a recent post on their Facebook page. They distributed $374,000 worth of donated goods to educators and nonprofits in 2018, including all 143 schools in the Fort Worth ISD. 

    The Welman Project Founders Vanessa Barker and Taylor Willis collect donated goods from businesses, nonprofits and individuals to redistribute for use in schools and other agencies in need.

  • New Dallas Holocaust Museum to open September 2019

    The Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance announced that its’ new Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum will open in September 2019 with a grand opening celebration on September 17th.

    The new museum will be one of two museums in the world that will have a permanent Dimensions of Testimony Theater. The new facility will also be able to accommodate more than 200,000 visitors each year – more than doubling its current capacity.
