  • Academy 4 Announces New Director of Development

    Academy 4, located in Fort Worth, has announced Mr. Terrence Butler has joined the agency as their new Director of Development.

    Mr. Butler comes to Academy 4 with five years of experience serving as the Assistant Director for HOPE Farm, Como location. Most recently, he worked as the founding Executive Director for Rivertree Academy. There, he led efforts to create a Christian Private School for the children of Lake Como, Pre-K – 5th grade, who typically could not afford a private school education.

    “I was attracted by the company’s mission to impact the lives of 4th graders by building meaningful relationships through mentoring,” Butler said. “I believe that mentoring can create change by increasing the possibilities for students living in at risk communities and will open the door to a brighter future.” 

    Mr. Butler’s role will include overseeing all fundraising activities including, major gifts, planned- giving, special events and annual campaigns. He will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing fundraising and business development strategies throughout Tarrant County and Austin, Texas.

    Mr. Butler will be replacing Mr. Michael McMahon as he retires later this year.

  • Academy 4 Celebrates National Mentoring Month

    Academy 4, located in Fort Worth, has shared they are celebrating National Mentoring Month in January with a series of events to connect mentors and young people.

    “National Mentoring Month is a great opportunity to raise the awareness about the importance of mentors in our community and also share how much we appreciate those who serve,” said John Shearer, Academy 4 Executive Director.

    Academy 4 serves approximately 1,100 4th grade students in nine Title 1 schools in Tarrant County and four Title 1 schools in Travis County. 76% of the students served are categorized as economically disadvantaged. 40% of the total schools served are English Language Learners (ELL) with more than 65% being Hispanic.

    National Mentoring Month is led by MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership, the national organization working to expand the quality and quantity of youth mentoring relationships nationwide.

  • Academy 4 Hires New Director of Marketing and Community Outreach

    Academy 4, located in Fort Worth, announced the hiring of Karmen L. Rubin as Marketing and Community Outreach Director.

    As the Marketing and Community Outreach Director, Ms. Rubin will carry out planning and development of the organization’s marketing, donor relations, individual giving and external communications. Rubin will oversee business development and recruitment strategies throughout Tarrant County and the Austin area.

    “I am excited to serve the children and families of Academy 4,” Rubin said. “I look forward to witnessing the expansion of this organization, and the impact our mission will have on generations to come.”

    Prior to joining Academy 4, Ms. Rubin served as the Executive Director of LVTRise, a revitalization initiative devoted to enhancing the lives of residents living in the Las Vegas Trail community of Fort Worth. While there she oversaw formal partnerships and led fundraising and capacity building strategies.

    Ms. Rubin has an extensive background working in the nonprofit community, serving as an organizational leader at Goodwill Industries in both Texas and Louisiana.
