Fox 4 News reported that the City of Dallas will be hosting a series of town hall meetings during July and August to inform citizens on how the city plans to increase efforts to address homelessness. The Office of Homeless Solutions (OHS) is seeking public feedback on a proposed Homeless Solutions Strategy to address homelessness in the City of Dallas.
According to the city, overall homelessness and unsheltered homelessness has increased 9% and 23% respectively since 2017. The OHS has rolled out a proposed plan that consists of four tracks to address homelessness in Dallas.
The tracks include expanding capacity of existing homeless shelter providers, providing temporary homeless centers in the four quadrants of the city simultaneously, providing funds and incentives to tenants and risk mitigation services to participating landlords, and providing funding for permanent supportive housing that targets the chronically homeless and rapid rehousing for the elderly, disabled, families with children and young adults. Day Centers would provide seamless wrap-around services.
According to the City of Dallas’ website, pending approval from City Council, the four-track program will concurrently meet the immediate need by providing habitable living environments for the unsheltered while developing the infrastructure for sustainability by increasing the supply of affordable housing.
