AFP Greater Dallas announces passing of first African American member, Barbara James

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Greater Dallas Chapter has announced the passing of Barbara James, CFRE. James was the first African American member of the organization, joining in 1984.

AFP Greater Dallas describes James as a trailblazer in the fundraising profession and says she was a leader active in the local chapter as well as the national organization.

James was the Outstanding Fundraising Executive in 1990 for AFP Greater Dallas’ National Philanthropy Day.

The organization has created a fund in her honor, the Barbara James Scholarship, which provides scholarship opportunities to AFP members from diverse populations. Find out more here.
