    Final $10 million raised for Dallas rapid rehousing program

    Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance (MDHA) announced major private gifts totaling $10 million to a collaborative and historic homeless “rapid rehousing” program called the Dallas Real-Time Rapid Rehousing program( DRTRR).

    The Dallas Real Time Rapid Rehousing Initiative aims to rehouse over 2,700 individuals experiencing homelessness by October 2023. The plan is to leverage federal dollars and housing vouchers from the American Rescue Plan Act and private philanthropic funding, for a total commitment of $70 million.

    DRTRR plans to accomplish this through the rapid deployment of both temporary and permanent subsidies.

    The following are key partners in the DRTRR program:

    The private funds raised by MDHA will be used to cover vital aspects of the program not already covered by federal money including landlord incentives, move-in kits and administrative and capacity-building expenses necessary for partner agencies to manage the large volume of clients.

    The funders comprise 19 families, corporations, organizations, and foundations, with Bank of America, Margot Perot and the Perot Family, and Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) each committing $2.0 million. The CFT commitment is a part of a $3.3 million total commitment by the Collaborative on Homelessness, a group of Dallas foundations founded by The Meadows Foundation that includes Lyda Hill Philanthropies, The Dallas Foundation, Hoblitzelle Foundation, King Foundation, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, and an anonymous foundation.

    In addition to the funders mentioned above, DRTRR has received support from: Downtown Dallas, Inc., the Muse Family Foundation, The National and Todd Interests, the Dallas Citizens Council, Toyota, Beck, JP Morgan Chase and Co., Woods Capital, Headington Companies, and Ryan, LLC.

    2019 Dallas Homeless Youth Survey Data Released

    KERA News reports that the 2019 Dallas Homeless Youth Survey has new data released by the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance. Two counts were done in 2019, one in January and one in July. The combined count is 250 homeless young people.

    Findings include the reasons youth become homeless and the challenges for youth to gain employment.

  • Case Manager of the Year Awards

    Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance has shared the upcoming Case Manager of the Year Award finalists. The award recognizes case managers who have worked hard to make homelessness rare, brief and nonrecurring.

  • Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance in need of volunteers for 2019 Homeless Count

    WBAP News Talk reported on Dec. 17th that Dallas and Collin counties are in need of volunteers for 2019 Homeless Count. David Gruber with Dallas Metro Homeless Alliance said having an accurate gauge of the number of homeless individuals in the area is critical to helping the homeless community year-round. “This is very useful information to municipalities and non profits. It’s very difficult to serve a specific need if you don’t have a specific number,” he said. The count also helps give them answers to the demographics among the homeless population. “How many veterans? How many families? How many families with children? How many families without children? How many are chronically homeless?” he said. The official homeless count is January 24th and volunteers will be able to enter information with the new “Counting Us” app. Learn more on the organization’s website.
