Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth has announced it will host a 2-week immersive pre-employment experience in June for Texas students who are blind or significantly visually impaired.
Project B.E.L.I.E.V.E. is geared toward high school students between the ages of 16-21 to support the transition process from high school to post-secondary life. The program is free of charge and will emphasize students gaining independence. Curriculum includes discovering interests and talents, workplace readiness, self-advocacy, orientation and mobility, independent living skills, assistive technology and more. Each participant will also receive a bag of items to assist in their daily lives.
The program will serve 20 students chosen through a nomination process based on school performance, a teacher’s recommendation and the ability to attend 100% of the program. Participants must be entering their Junior or Senior year of high school, or recently graduated.
