  • Denton Habitat for Humanity names new CEO

    Habitat for Humanity of Denton County announced Troy Greisen as its new Chief Executive Officer. Bringing over 30 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, Greisen has dedicated his career to serving communities both national and globally.

    Greisen’s background includes leadership roles with organizations such as Special Olympics and World Relief, as well as several local nonprofits in the DFW area and Denton County. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a unique ability to build, grow, and advance nonprofit missions to create meaningful impact in the lives of those they serve.

    “I have long admired the mission and vision of Habitat for Humanity and feel called to carry out the strategies of the movement,” said Greisen. “I am committed to growing and strengthening partnerships within the communities we serve and to seeking innovative solutions to address the housing needs of so many families across Denton County.”

  • Denton Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on historic 35-home project

    Habitat for Humanity of Denton County celebrated a significant milestone on April 19th, 2024, with the groundbreaking ceremony for the historic Habitat Village project. The event marked the commencement of construction on an 8-acre lot in the southeast area of Denton, destined to be transformed into a vibrant community comprising 35 homes.

    Key figures from the local community joined in the festivities, including Habitat for Humanity of Denton County Board President Brian Strohl, Representative Richard Hayes, Denton City Council Member Vicki Byrd, Sheriff Murphree, and Denton Mayor Hudspeth. Their presence underscored the importance of this initiative in addressing housing needs and fostering community development.

    The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by community members who have steadfastly supported Habitat for Humanity of Denton County throughout its journey. Among the celebration, guests and supporters were engaged in various activities, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose.

    Attendees were treated to food by El Cucuy Burritos, generously provided by Dan Gillean from Gillean’s Brothers Roofing LLC, exemplifying the unwavering support of local businesses in our mission. Additionally, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Gohlke Pools for graciously offering their space for the event and for their unwavering support throughout this endeavor.

    The Habitat Village project represents a significant step towards addressing the pressing need for affordable housing in Denton County. With construction set to begin this year, the community eagerly anticipates the transformation of this 8-acre lot into a thriving neighborhood where families can build brighter futures.
