New Assistant Head of School announced for Fort Worth Country Day

Fort Worth Country Day (FWCD), the oldest co-ed college-preparatory school in Fort Worth, has appointed Dr. Amy Witten as its new Assistant Head of School for Academics and Student Services.

Dr. Witten brings a wealth of educational expertise and diverse experiences to FWCD. She joins FWCD from Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Houston, where she held various leadership roles since 2014, including Middle School and Upper School Learning Specialist (2014-2015), Head of Curriculum and Learning Support (2015-2018), Head of Middle School (2018-2021), and most recently, Head of Academics, Innovation and Student Services.

In her new role at FWCD, Dr. Witten will oversee all social and emotional initiatives to prioritize faculty and student well-being, provide guidance to the school’s student support programs across all divisions, and facilitate the work of FWCD’s health and wellness counselors and academic support coordinators. In addition, she will spearhead faculty professional development, aiming to enhance both on-and off-campus offerings. She also will collaborate closely with FWCD’s Head of Lower School, Trey Blair, to co-lead the school’s JK-12 Curriculum Committee.

Dr. Witten is a highly sought-after educator with decades of teaching, leadership, and relationship-building experience. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Linguistics and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Bilingual Education, both from the University of Houston. Additionally, she has earned a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Management, Policy, and Community Health Practices from the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health, along with an Educational Diagnostician Certification. Early this fall, she will complete a School Management and Leadership Certificate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
