SUMMARY:Targets for Christ Clay Shoot Tournament
DESCRIPTION:St. Timothy Christian Academy (STCA) in Plano\, Texas will be co-hosting its third “Targets for Christ” clay shoot tournament on September 19\, 2024.  This is the third year that Targets for Christ has worked with STCA to raise funds for our private\, non-profit school.  \nSTCA is a  school for students with learning differences\, serving grades K-12.  Every one of our students has a diagnosed learning disability\, and we accommodate over 20 different diagnoses. Our mission is to love and nurture our students as the unique individuals that God has created them to be – and our goal is to help them to understand and celebrate their differences. Fundraisers such as Targets for Christ are essential to supporting our work\, as the price of our tuition does not cover the operating costs of educating the children.  ALSO\, we are working to build our tuition assistance fund for any future family in need. \nPlease partner with us in our tournament by shooting\, donating\, buying a raffle ticket for the grand prize (a gun safe containing 4 new firearms)\, or referring a friend. DESCRIPTION:Supported by Luncheon Co-Chairs Laurie Bianco and Jeff Whitfield\, The Salvation Army of North Texas will again team up with the Dallas Cowboys for the annual Inspiring Hope Luncheon on October 16\, 2024 at AT&T Stadium to help support the ongoing needs of those combatting poverty\, addiction\, and homelessness in Tarrant County. As one of The Salvation Army of North Texas’ signature fundraising events\, the Inspiring Hope Luncheon raises vital funds to support Corps Community Centers and programs in the area\, such as the Family Life Center\, J.E. & L.E. Mabee Social Service Center\, and Northside Corps Community Center.  It also benefits the Gene and Jerry Jones Family North Texas Youth Education Town (YET)\, which gives young people the tools they need to overcome adversity and achieve their full potential and is this year celebrating its 10th anniversary in operation.

DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, November 1\, from 9am – 5pm\, EMPOWER is hosting a luggage drive to provide children in foster care with their own luggage.  \nLuggage can be donated by dropping off in person at EMPOWER’s offices (Dallas and Allen locations)\, or by shopping the Amazon wish list. \nDallas office: 1820 Regal Row\, Dallas\, TX 75235\nAllen office: 760 North Watters Road\, Suite 100\, Allen\, TX 75013 \nEvery 45 seconds\, a child enters foster care in the United States and is removed from everything they have ever known. In Texas\, there are currently more than 13\,000 children in the foster care system.  \nEMPOWER is the Community-Based Care (CBC) contractor in Metroplex East region\, a nine-county area in North Texas including Dallas\, Grayson\, Fannin\, Collin\, Hunt\, Rockwall\, Kaufman\, Ellis and Navaro counties. The goal is to collect 400 brand new suitcases\, providing luggage for children in foster care within the Metroplex East region.  \nMany of these children have to carry their belongings in an old backpack\, a laundry basket or a garbage bag\, inadvertently sending a message that their personal possessions lack value. With the luggage drive\, the goal is to provide children with luggage so it is one less thing they have to worry about during this difficult transition.

DESCRIPTION:Join The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on Friday\, November 22 at 11:00 a.m. with presidential historian Marc Selverstone\, moderated by fellow presidential scholar Jeffrey Engel. Selverstone’s book\, The Kennedy Withdrawal: Camelot and the American Commitment to Vietnam\, uses presidential recordings to offer an inside look at presidential decision-making in this period of the Vietnam War. \nIn October 1963\, the United States publicly proposed the removal of American troops from Vietnam\, earning President John F. Kennedy an enduring reputation as a skeptic on the war. In fact\, Kennedy was ambivalent about withdrawal and was largely detached from its planning. Its details were the handiwork of Defense Secretary Robert McNamara\, who turned a loosely defined presidential aspiration into a systemic program for a U.S. troop withdrawal. Its announcement in October 1963 ultimately served Kennedy’s political needs\, allowing him to limit American involvement while preserving the U.S. commitment to South Vietnam. \nProgram tickets include a copy of the book and a light lunch reception.
