SUMMARY:Dallas Arboretum's Fourth Annual Black Heritage Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The Dallas Arboretum’s fourth annual Black Heritage Celebration returns Saturday\, May 18\, and Sunday\, May 19 for a weekend full of fun and cultural experiences for the whole family. As the Arboretum honors the past\, enjoys the present\, and looks toward the future\, diversity is celebrated through various Black cultural experiences. The weekend celebration\, presented by Bank of America\, showcases the unique talents\, art\, fashion and businesses from the local Black community who have garnered national and international acclaim. One of which is DeDe McGuire\, philanthropist and host of the nationally syndicated talk show “DeDe in the Morning” heard locally on KKDA/K104. She is the 2024 honorary chair of the Black Heritage Celebration. The weekend’s events include chef demonstrations\, live entertainment and a curated Black-owned vendor market with more than 40 businesses. The celebration is open to the public and entry fee is included in the general admission to the Dallas Arboretum.

The walk also celebrates mental health recovery\, honors those who have lost their lives to mental health conditions and raises funds for the nonprofit. This year’s goal is to raise more than $150\,000. NAMIWalks North Texas includes a resource fair\, activities for kids\, and free parking. The fundraiser is pet-friendly. Founded in 1982\, NAMI North Texas\, a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible nonprofit organization\, advocates for equitable access to mental health services\, treatment\, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raise awareness and build a community of hope for all of those in need. Serving Dallas\, Collin\, Denton\, and Rockwall counties\, NAMI North Texas provides essential and free education\, advocacy and support group programs.

DESCRIPTION:The Arlington Foundation for Excellence in Education (AFEE) has been serving Arlington\, Texas\, and its surrounding communities for almost 20 years. AFEE is a non-profit organization that focuses on developing area youth through career and college preparedness\, leadership training\, advocacy\, and financial support through scholarship awards. \nAFEE’s 20th Anniversary Celebration at Arlington’s beautiful Levitt Pavilion is a free community event that you do not want to miss. The event will feature N’Tense the Band featuring Sean G.\, food and beverages from local food trucks\, and resources from local vendors. Past performers at the Outdoor Stage include KC and the Sunshine Band\, Blaine Mitchell\, Elaina Kay\, and Tank & the Bangers. The event is free and open to the public for general admission\, and it will be held on Sunday\, May 5\, 2024\, from 2-6:00 pm. \nAs a staple in Arlington for 20 years\, AFEE members have worked tirelessly to make a positive impact on the community and develop an understanding of civic responsibility for our members through the process of serving others. Our efforts have paid dividends in the form of our programs’ tangible impacts on the community\, awarding over 40 scholarships to area students in 2023 and outreach through programming to more than 5\,000 residents of Arlington and surrounding communities.
