Live at the Levitt: Tejano Sunday Night! (Latin Breed and Los Músicos)

July 10, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Free

The Latin Breed Band was born in San Antonio, TX in 1969; their sound was fathered by Chicano music pioneer Rudy Guerra. Rudy left the popular Sunny Ozuna and the Sunliners, who were showcased on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, to raise the bar for Chicano music. He assembled musicians and worked to educate them musically and technically, with just the right sense of feel. They had the same passion, leading to the exciting horns, the rhythms, and embellished chords we now recognize as The Latin Breed sound, a sound that began to gain in popularity and climb the Billboard charts as the group flooded the radio, hit after hit. Some have compared The Latin Breed sound to Chicago, The Tower of Power, and Earth, Wind, and Fire; most everyone agrees it’s a powerful sound that hits the soul. Energized with a new lineup, the band’s members are excited to blaze new paths and capture the hearts and ears and breed a new generation of musicians, singers, and fans.
Opening for The Latin Breed is Los Músicos, a band of seasoned national touring talent. Each has been a member of some of the top Chicano and Tejano recording bands, performing back to the early 1970s. Their national travels exposed them to radio and many genres. Their powerful music arsenal includes potent Chicano, seasoned Tejano, beat-tapping oldies, emotion-provoking R&B, and Motown classics—and don’t be surprised if you also hear some smooth jazz riffs. These musicians have recorded with Chicano and Tejano greats like Little Joe y La Familia, Johnny Hernandez and The Third Coast, Jesse Serrata, Augustine “Guti” Ramirez, and many others, and continue to delight music lovers across the nation and gain new fans.
This night of Tejano music is part of the Levitt’s free live music series. Seating is first-come, first served; early arrival is highly recommended. Lawn chairs encouraged and coolers welcome. Find out more at levittpavilionarlington.org
