Communities In Schools of Greater Tarrant County (CIS GTC), joined by local leaders, educational partners, and city officials, recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a new headquarters located in Westworth Village. The CIS Center for Student Support will serve as the organization’s main office and a hub of support for CIS school-based staff.
Scheduled to open in fall of 2025, the CIS Center for Student Support will provide a mental health counseling center for student clients and their families, a training and enrichment space for local social workers and the community, and a fresh food pantry in partnership with Texas Health Resources for families experiencing food insecurity, among other key needs.
Communities In Schools removes barriers that students and families face to ensure every child has the support they need to be successful. In Tarrant County, CIS GTC empowers students to stay in school and achieve in life by bringing community resources inside public schools. CIS social workers, who are placed on-site in area schools, provide case management and mental health services to students where they are – inside schools.
“As the number of local children in need continues to rise, CIS must look ahead and ask ‘how can we do more?’ ” says Lindsey Garner, president and CEO. CIS is already well-positioned to answer the call for expanding student services, and the CIS Center for Student Support will provide the facilities needed to better equip our social workers to meet student needs and provide trauma-informed training for CIS staff, local educators, and the community.”
