Cathy Neece Brown appointed to American Society on Aging advisory council

The James L. West Center for Dementia Care announced the appointment of one of its senior leaders, Cathy Neece Brown, Chief Strategy Officer/VP Mission Support, to the Innovation and Social Impact Advisory Council of the American Society on Aging (ASA).

This prestigious two-year appointment (2024-2026) honors both Neece Brown and the James L. West Center for their significant contributions to aging services and dementia care locally, statewide, and nationally, as ASA is the largest community of professionals working in the aging field in America.

As a trailblazer in dementia care, the James L. West Center has long been recognized for its dedication to advancing knowledge and improving care for those living with dementia. Neece Brown, who has played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s strategic direction and programs that provide mentoring and dementia education for the next generation of healthcare leaders, will now bring that expertise to the ASA’s Innovation and Social Impact Advisory Council. The council’s mission is to identify, support, and celebrate innovative initiatives that drive social impact, especially those that enhance care for older adults.

As the staff liaison for the Innovation and Social Impact Advisory Council, Victoria Ruiz expressed excitement about the upcoming work: “We are honored to welcome Cathy Neece Brown to this important volunteer role. Her insight and insightful experience in aging services, and especially in dementia care, will be invaluable as we work together to advance new initiatives that benefit older adults, healthcare professionals, and their caregivers across the country.”

The Advisory Council consists of 30 members, including co-chairs Melissa Tischler and Tom Kamber, two pre-eminent leaders on aging. The council will focus on ASA’s Innovation Accelerator, a coaching and support series designed to help ASA members develop and advance groundbreaking initiatives, services, and approaches to caregiving and aging.

The James L. West Center for Dementia Care has consistently been at the forefront of dementia care and education, establishing itself as a leader not only in direct resident care but also in caregiver education, Senior Day program, workforce development, and short-term rehab services. This appointment is a testament to the Center’s continued commitment to excellence and innovation in the field of aging.
