The Tarrant County (TCC) Foundation, located in Fort Worth, has shared they have received a $1 million gift from North Texas Specialty Physicians (NTSP). The funds will establish the Advancing Healthcare for North Texas Endowed Scholarship program, which will provide scholarships for students enrolled in a health science or nursing program at TCC.

UTA Ranks High for Diverse Education
The Fort Worth Business Press reports that the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) has again ranked high among the nation’s diverse universities according to an annual report in “Diverse: Issues in Higher Education” magazine.
UTA ranks number one in Texas for master’s degrees awarded to minority students and also ranks first in the number of bachelor’s and master’s degrees earned by African Americans in Texas.

Former UTA Executive Files Lawsuit after Termination
The Star-Telegram reports that Deborah Robinson is suing the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) after her 2019 termination. Her suit claims she was bullied and threatened by UTA President Dr. Vistasp M. Karbhari.
Ms. Robinson served as the UTA vice president of institutional advancement for 11 months.

Lawsuit Claims TCU Faculty Member Abused Student
TCU 360 reports that a federal lawsuit claims that Texas Christian University (TCU), located in Fort Worth, discriminated against a student.
The suit also accuses the Dean of the John V. Roach Honors College, Dr. Diane Snow, of physically and verbally abusing an unnamed student in the summer of 2019.

Weatherford College Now Offering Four-Year Degrees
The Star-Telegram reports that Weatherford College has received authorization from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to begin offering baccalaureate degrees. The school will also begin offering a bachelor’s in nursing degree program in the fall of 2020.

Texas Wesleyan and Tarrant County College Sign Dual Admission Agreement
Texas Wesleyan University, located in Fort Worth, has shared that they have signed a dual admission agreement with Tarrant County College (TCC) to allow students a way to continue their educations between institutions.
The multi-year agreement will allow students to use one application to apply to both TCC and Texas Wesleyan University (TXWES). TCC graduates can automatically transfer to TXWES as a junior to then complete their bachelor’s degree. There is no additional cost for participating in the program.

UTA Announces Plans to Cross-Train Special Education Teachers and Social Workers
The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) has shared that they will cross-train graduate students interested in social work and special education to better serve grade-school children with disabilities and high needs.
UTA’s College of Education and School of Social Work will use a $1.08 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs to create an interdisciplinary master’s-level personnel preparation cohort over the next five years.
The program will better prepare professionals in both fields to serve families and students in high-need schools and with high-intensity needs. Special education and social work preservice students at UTA will take classes and train in the field together to learn the skills to support students and their families for educational success and their overall well-being.
