Camp Fire First Texas announced the appointment of Dr. Travis Davis as the Vice President of Early Education Workforce Development. Dr. Davis brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the organization, overseeing three key early childhood programs: school readiness, early education apprenticeship programs, and community training solutions.
In his role, Dr. Davis will be responsible for supervising a team of 13 professionals, managing a budget of $2.4 million, and coordinating grants management. His leadership will be instrumental in advancing Camp Fire First Texas’ mission to provide high-quality education to early childhood professionals in North Texas.

Dr. Davis holds a Doctorate of Education in Early Childhood Education from the University of North Texas, where his research interests include teacher training and development, curriculum frameworks, and community and school partnerships. With a Master of Science in Counselor Education – Play Therapy from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Science in Child Development from the University of Central Oklahoma, Dr. Davis brings a comprehensive educational background to his new role.
Prior to joining Camp Fire, Dr. Davis held various leadership positions, including Director at the Institute of Child Development at The University of Oklahoma, Chief Early Education Officer at Child Care Associates, Director at Tarrant County College Children’s Center, Master Teacher at UNT Child Development Lab, and Director of Community Professional Development at Camp Fire First Texas.
Reflecting on his return, Dr. Davis shared, “I worked at Camp Fire from 2012 to 2014, right before I wrote my dissertation. It was a big moment in my life because working at Camp Fire helped me learn so much about CDA programs and helped inform my dissertation and research projects. I’m so excited to come back and support the work at Camp Fire, helping teachers and directors.”
Dr. Davis is an active member of several professional organizations, including the National Association for the Education of Young Children, Southern Early Childhood Association, Texas Association for the Education of Young Children, Denton Area Association for the Education of Young Children, Fort Worth Area Association for Education of Young Children, Edmond Early Childhood Association, National Association of Campus Children’s Centers, and International Play Association / USA.
In addition to his professional affiliations, he volunteers with T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood, previously serving on the State Advisory Board, and is a past Board President of the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children.
His dedication and leadership have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children EC Leader of the Year in 2019, University of North Texas Early Childhood Education Doctoral Student of the Year in 2015, and Texas Association for the Education of Young Children Recognized State Board Member in 2013.
