Boys & Girls Clubs Tarrant celebrate re-opening of Arlington branch

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County (BGCGTC) celebrated the grand re-opening of the Dan Serna branch in September in Arlington. The event commemorated completion of a $600,000 renovation to the facility, which included repairs as well as upgrades to better meet current and future Club needs.

The renovated branch includes dedicated space for art, teen activities, education, and social recreation. Branch amenities include a gym, kitchen, dining area, offices and outdoor sport court. The City of Arlington, Ladies Auxiliary of Arlington, and LBL Architects served as partners in the renovation.

The Dan Serna branch is located in the Collins Street corridor of East Arlington. It provides summer and afterschool programs to youth and teens, ages 6 to 18. Transportation to the branch from the following schools is provided during the school year: Adams Elementary, Blanton Elementary, Goodman Elementary, McNutt Elementary, Rankin Elementary, Newman International Academy, Workman Junior High, and Sam Houston High School.

The branch began serving the community at its present location in 1980 in what was an Arlington water department facility. The Club was then known as the East Branch. In 2022, the City of Arlington renewed the building lease with BGCGTC for another five years. The name was also changed that year to honor the late Dan Serna, a longtime community leader and volunteer. Among many accomplishments, Serna served as the first Hispanic member of the Arlington City Council and was a former member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington board of directors.

“Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County’s Dan Serna Branch has a wonderful history and plays a significant role in serving youth in the Arlington community,” said Daphne Barlow Stigliano, CEO & president of BGCGTC. “This renovation opens up new opportunities for our Club members, and we look forward to serving this community for many years to come.”
