Here are two recent federal grant opportunities:

Nursing Home Staffing Campaign

  • Funder: DHHS
  • Expected number of awards: 5 to 10
  • Cost sharing required? No
  • Closing date: March 27, 2026
  • Award range: up to $20 million
  • Eligible applicants: This NOFO is only open to nonprofit nursing and educational organizations, such as national associations for nursing schools, nurses, or nursing students. Your organization must have demonstrated experience working with large numbers of nursing schools (hundreds) and large numbers of nurses (thousands) across multiple states. Institutions of higher education may also partner with other entities as a subrecipient to support the primary applicant’s ability to cover multiple states.
  • Summary: This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is focused on helping to recruit registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses or licensed vocational nurses (LPNs) to work in nursing homes by offering financial incentives. Through this NOFO, CMS is accepting applications for cooperative agreements to entities that will administer financial incentives, such as loan repayment and stipends to RNs and LPNs, to work for three years in a qualifying nursing home or in an oversight role with a state agency.

Veterans Cemetery Grants

  • Funder: Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Expected number of awards: 30
  • Cost sharing required? Yes
  • Due date: July 1, 2026
  • Award range: up to $60 million
  • Eligible applicants: States, U.S. territories, federally recognized tribal governments on trust land owned by, or held in trust for, the tribal organization or counties that meet the eligibility of 38 USC 2408.
  • Summary: The VA’s Veterans’ Cemetery Grants Program provides funding to states, territories, federally recognized tribes, and eligible counties to establish, expand, or improve Veterans cemeteries. The program may cover up to 100 percent of approved development costs, though it does not fund land acquisition and limits equipment funding to new cemeteries only. Grant-funded cemeteries must meet VA site selection, planning, construction, and domestic manufacturing standards and serve Veterans and eligible family members. Since 1980, the program has supported the development of more than 120 Veterans cemeteries nationwide, significantly expanding burial access for Veterans and their families.
